I won a Dove Award!!!!

I’ve been pinching myself since Tuesday night when I received the news. It’s now public so I want to share just a few of the things I’ve been thinking about since receiving this honor from my industry peers.

I’ve been making music for 27 years…and for ALL of those I’ve been an independent artist. If I’m honest, I’ve never felt the burden of what that means more than I have in the last 18 months. As someone put it when I won my first Dove, it’s a real “David vs. Goliath” situation. To be nominated again and win for the second time is the sweetest gift from God. Fully aware it takes industry peers to make this happen, I have realized how many friends I’ve made over the years I’m thankful for the people I’ve met as God has ordered my steps. In winning, I’ve understood how much these trophies were my childhood dream. Along the way I had made peace that it wasn’t really possible for me and where God had me. But, isn’t it just like God, to have us be on mission for Him and in the process make a way to bestow something as earthly as a title and trophy on us? Simply because He knows it will make us smile. After all He is a Father that gives good gifts. Thank You Abba!

The category was “Children’s Recorded Song of the Year”. Way too often I can feel people look down on my art because it’s for kids. Facts are facts and human nature doesn’t always see the full picture of “let the children come to me”. All #kidmin leaders are aware of this. I do look at what I do as art. I’ve studied my craft and try always to make it be the best it can be. Never settling or saying “that’s good enough for kids.” I think what I create speaks for itself. But this week I’ve realized my category may not be one on the big televised special but the trophy I receive and the title of winner is the exact same as any of those other categories. My music is not lesser than. It’s just genre specific.

The song was for “Holy Forever”. I’m honored to be a carrier of this song I fell in love with on the first listen. I believe it’s the song we were made to sing. Every time I lead the song live it’s a special moment. To have two of the writer’s: Brian and Jenn Johnson cheering me on in the moment was an added bonus. To the songwriters, thank you for the manna of your song!

To my team (past and present) and family, thank you. This wouldn’t have happened without YOUR hard work and skin in the game. This is for all of us!

To all of those that have pushed play on my music all these years, thank you. Being a part of your life and journey of faith is my life’s greatest honor. Thanks for listening and singing along to my music that makes Jesus loud!🎵

To every independent artist, songwriter and producer: what you do matters. Don’t ever believe it’s lesser than or doesn’t count. We are underdogs. I share this win with you. Keep creating and keep walking in obedience!🏁

I believe there is power in kid’s worship! I’m fully convinced. Listen to a group of kids sing “Holy Forever” and you’ll be convinced too.

I’m in a new season and have more exciting things to share in time. I’ve been talking to the Lord and laying down my dream to better grasp His dream for me. As I’ve waded these waters of surrender lately, God has sent a raft to me in the form of a Dove to say “I’m here. I see you. I’m proud of you.”

I’m humbled, honored and oh so thankful for this gift.🕊
