Read Proverbs 3:5-7 with your family. Then draw a big heart on a piece of paper. Talk about the times when it is hard to trust God, and write a word or two that describes each situation in the paper heart (e.g., write “thunderstorms” if your child has a hard time being brave during thunderstorms; write “new school” if your child has a hard time trusting God to bring good friends at a new school; write “job” if you have a hard time trusting God to provide).
Then read Proverbs 3:5-7 inserting your problem like so,
“I will trust in the Lord with all my heart and lean not on my own understanding; when there is a thunderstorm, I will acknowledge him, and he will make my path straight.”
Or simply sing the final verse of “Trust” with the words changed,
“I will trust in the Lord during thunderstorms with all my heart.”
Keep and display the heart paper, and use it as a reminder to pray and trust God in everything.
